NU Notes: Jones fights to get his Blackshirt back
One of the bigger storylines that has come out of bowl practices over the past week is the fact that junior cornerback Andre Jones was stripped of his Blackshirt.
Jones talked about losing his Blackshirt for the first time on Tuesday. He said that he didn't lose his Blackshirt for performance reasons, but more for off-the-field issues.
"I'd say it was mainly my fault," Jones said. "I wasn't making meeting times with my counselors and stuff like that. It's something I will make sure won't happen again.
"That's my New Years resolution, that won't happen again. (Losing my Blackshirt) was the consequence for that and that won't happen again."
Defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove said Jones continues to make progress in the system, but they want to see him play with more consistency.
"I want to see him improve every aspect of his position," Cosgrove said. "He's done a lot of good things, and he's actually did a lot of good things in the Big 12 Championship game.
"Are we hoping to motivate him? No. We are trying to improve him. He is a motivated guy. He works hard, so effort is not a problem. We just have to get him more consistent."
