Horns sluggish in 76-66 win
The Texas Longhorns took the court Thursday night against Centenary coming off of a tough loss at Tennessee four days earlier. The Longhorns (9-3) failed to get off the mat after the tough loss, beating a 6-8 Centenary team by only 10-points, 76-66. It was a game in which the Longhorns looked sluggish on the offensive end and didn't show the defensive improvement needed with Big 12 play eight days away.
The Longhorns committed 11 first-half turnovers, with the majority being of the unforced variety, keeping the Gents in the game. Texas took a 42-29 lead into the half behind the play of Kevin Durant. Durant, who scored 21 points and pulled down a freshman record tying 17 rebounds, led all scorers with 13 and added eight rebounds in the opening half.
Texas looked to be getting things going to begin the second half surging to a 56-35 lead, but the Gents sophomore guard Tyrone Hamilton had different plans. After a cold shooting first half, Hamilton hit three three-pointers to keep Centenary within reach.
Hamilton led the Gents with 22 points on 8-of-22 shooting.
