Well-kept secret is all Iowa State now
As first reported on the ISU Confidential premium message board on Monday, Iowa State has secured a verbal commitment from an Illinois linebacker that put together a strong senior season and collected multiple scholarship offers in almost total obscurity. But where others missed the boat, ISU didn't, and now Curtiz Mathis is pledged to become a Cyclone.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Mathis visited Iowa State officially this past weekend and committed to the Cyclone coaches on Sunday, according to Harvey (Ill.) Thornton Township head coach Bill Mosel.
"He did it there on Sunday but I like to give my guys some time to be sure before we start telling people this has happened," Coach Mosel said. "Your commitment is your word and you only do it once. He talked more with his family and I talked to him about it again today and he said he was sure about Iowa State."
