Louisiana speedster gets first offer

It went down to the wire on National Signing Day before Louisiana's No.1 athlete Joe McKnight opted to go to USC over Ole Miss and LSU.

Only a couple of weeks have passed and the Ole Miss coaching staff is already hot and heavy on another speedster from the New Orleans area, Luther Ambrose of St. James High School.

The Rebels are Ambrose first and only offer, something that the standout running back will always remember.

"Getting that first offer was special," Ambrose said Thursday. "I will always remember that Ole Miss offered me first."

Ambrose, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound speedster that runs the forty in the 4.3 range, rushed for over 1,300 yards as a junior. He scored over 12 touchdowns rushing another five score receiving. His accomplishments on the field were enough to earn him first team all conference honors.

While Ambrose hasn't been to Oxford yet to check things out, he plans on going to the Ole Miss campus this spring.

"I'm going to check things out," Ambrose said. "I have heard a lot of great things about their campus; I can't wait to see it."

Other schools that Ambrose is interested in include Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU.

According to Ambrose he is looking for a school with good facilities and a program headed in the right direction.

"Facilities are important to me," Ambrose said. "I want to pick the right place where I feel at home at."
