Newton becomes Horns' 14th commitment
Like every other coaching staff in America, the Texas Longhorns love to recruit players that excel in multiple sports or players that come from winning programs. The idea, of course, is that if a kid is a winner at the high school level, particularly in Class 5A ball, there's a good chance that it's in his blood and it will carry over to his college career.
On Saturday, the Longhorns secured commitments from two players that haven't lost in ages when Southlake Carroll's Riley Dodge and Tre Newton gave verbal pledges to the Longhorn staff during their junior day visit.
Newton is a 6-foot, 194-pound running back.
