Two offers for lineman
Illinois' defensive philosophy always comes back to one very important factor: speed. Like many college and professional teams today, the Illini coaching staff will sacrifice size for speed at almost any position. The key word there being almost.
In order for this type of system to work on a regular basis, the defensive tackles need the ability to get to the quarterback, but also take up space and hold blockers from the second level.
Six-foot-four, 320-pound Cleveland Glenville lineman Shawntel Rowell fits the bill of a space-eater with athleticism. Rowell played strictly guard for the Tarblooders last year, but plans a move to defensive tackle this year.
He has offers from Illinois and Miami of Ohio. Schools showing interest include LSU, Florida, West Virginia, Cincinnati and others.
