Vols in Mix With One of Nation's Top Tackles
Tennessee put a focus on getting as many juniors as possible to campus this spring and winter, with a fair amount of success. One of the most noteworthy names in the Class of 2008 to make the trip to Knoxville this spring has been Alabama offensive lineman Antoine McClain, a player pegged by most as potentially one of the top players at his position in the nation.
McClain (6-foot-6, 317 pounds, 5.4 40-yard dash), from Anniston, Ala., has extraordinary size and strength for a player yet to hit his senior year of high school, but he's far more than a 'big-lug'. Light on his feet, and capable of dominating opponents at the point of attack, McClain has college coaches drooling over the possibility of planting him at one of their tackle spots and watching him swallow speed rushers for the next few years.
Everyone - Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU - has jumped in with an early offer, but the Vols have the distinction of being the only out-of-state program to have gotten McClain on campus thus far, when he made the trip for the Orange & White game. A trip that left him with a positive impression of the program.
