Stonum ready to uphold No. 1's legacy

TheWolverine.com Anthony Carter created the legacy behind Michigan's jersey No. 1, earning All-America honors three times. Greg McMurtry, Derrick Alexander and David Terrell helped uphold the tradition, while Tyrone Butterfield borrowed the number for a while. Then came Braylon Edwards.
Now it's Darryl Stonum's turn
only it took a little convincing to persuade him that the maize and blue, No. 1 jersey was for him.
"I wanted No. 21," Stonum admitted in the days following his Sun., July 1 commitment to Michigan. "They asked me what number I wanted, and I told them 21. Then they said, 'we're going to give you No. 1.
"I said, 'but I really like 21.'"
