Prince hopes to return to San Antonio
Sitting at the podium during the Big 12 Media Days at the Wyndham's St. Anthony Hotel on Wednesday morning, Kansas State coach Ron Prince recounted a story from when he sat at his first league preseason media event last July.
"A year ago when we came (to Kansas City) it wasn't until I walked up on the stage that (then-sports information director) Garry (Bowman) leaned over to me and said, 'By the way, they picked you last,'" Prince said.
Obviously, such a fate didn't materialize.
Coming off a 7-6 campaign, including a 4-4 league mark to tie Missouri for second-place in the division standings, and a return to the bowl scene after a two-year drought, the Wildcats are projected by the Big 12 media to finish third in the North division in 2007 behind favorite Missouri and Nebraska.
Sure, the Wildcats earned some respect from observers this time around. That's not enough.
"I respect their opinion. That's fine," Prince said. "But we've got an agenda of our own."
Prince planned to waste little time in putting his agenda into effect.
