Brodell looks to build on last season
Q: Tell us about confidence at the position you play.
Brodell: Well, I said it earlier today, you can't teach playing experience, you just go to be able to go out there and do it, and get the opportunity to go out there and do it. Luckily, they gave me the opportunity to go out there and play pretty much every Saturday. Confidence is something that's not easily attained, and last year I think I struggled with that for some of the year, but I think more importantly it's something that is going to help me this year now that I have it. I feel like I can play at this level, and I feel like I can play with any of the team's secondaries here in the Big Ten conference, and I'm just looking forward to going out there and having a better year this year.
Q: Tell us about Jake and how you approach this season with him at quarterback.
Brodell: Well, it's different because he's a left-handed quarterback, but really, other than that there's not a whole lot that changes. It's not like we change our offense now that Drew is gone. We've got the same system in place - a system that's been proven to win - and I think Jake's going to take it over very nicely. He's definitely got the ability to do it, and he's got a thirst to prove himself. It's similar to the situation when Drew came in here as a sophomore; a lot of people doubted what would happen, and he was able to step in and win a Big Ten championship. I think Jake has the same type of thing on his mind. He wants to prove himself and he knows he's capable of doing it. He brings a lot of the same things that Drew brought to the table for the team, and hopefully he'll be able to lead us to a good season.
