Q&A with new commitment Deon'tae Pannell
Penn State recruiting took a big step forward on Friday when Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive tackle Deon'tae Pannell informed the Nittany Lion coaching staff of his intentions to play football at Penn State.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound prospect is rated as the No. 40 offensive tackle in the country, and is ranked as the No. 11 player in Michigan by Rivals.com.
BlueWhiteIllustrated.com got a chance to speak with Pannell after the decision had sunk in, and what follows is a transcript of that conversation.
BWI: Can you tell us a little bit about your decision?
Deon'tae Pannell: Well I committed on Friday, and it pretty much came down to me picking the place where I felt that I would be most successful for the next four or five years. It also had a lot to do with Penn State's campus, the atmosphere of the place, the support staff and the attitude of the players that I got a chance to hang out with.
BWI: You took a little time between when you said you were going to announce and when you actually did announce, how did the time off help you in picking a school?
DP It just sured things up to make sure that I wasn't making a premature decision. I had to make sure I had all the information that I needed before I finally made my choice. I wouldn't say I was hesitance, but it was more of a reassurance, because I kind of did have Penn State in my mind before that.
