Saddler's father knew best
MONROEVILLE, Pa.-When he was a five-year-old wearing wide oval glasses, nobody probably thought this puny kid would amount to much on the football field.
Nobody, but his father, George Saddler: George had played some ball in the early 1970s at old Fifth Avenue School in Pittsburgh's Hill District. He had been the first peewee coach for one Major Harris. He knew his way about the 100-yard field.
George swore by his son, Cameron Saddler. But it didn't happen because of their blood tie. It was more of a surprise.
When George and Darlene Saddler were rearing their youngest child, Dad worked two shifts. On a second shift, his buddy requested that he come down to the peewee football field for a break.
