Carolina grabs Texas punter
Katy (Tex.) punter/kickoff specialist Ryan Doerr, the nation's No. 13 kicker, committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks last night.
"Yes, sir, I'm committed to South Carolina now," the 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound Doerr said. "I picked them over offers from Kansas State, Rice, West Point and Air Force. I would say Kansas State and Rice were second and third on my list."
Doerr, who's averaging over 45 yards per punt as a senior, picked South Carolina for multiple reasons.
"I went there for the S.C. State game, and I just liked everything about the program," he said. "Obviously, having a chance to play for such great coaches was exciting to me, and having a chance to play in a great conference like the SEC."
The success the No.6 Gamecocks are having on the field also made an impression on Doerr, who also has 23 touchbacks this year on kickoffs.
