Four-star Bedford takes in Cyclone game
The highest-rated football prospect visiting Iowa State this past weekend was there on his own time and his own dime. Four-star junior college defensive end David Bedford took advantage of an open week for Independence CC to travel to Ames, Iowa, and watch a former teammate in action and get an advance look at ISU before an official visit that is yet to come.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Bedford is ranked as the no. 9 JUCO prospect in America by Rivals.com, which has rated him a four-star prospect. Bedford's stock is so high because he'll likely graduate in December and he'll have three years of eligibility remaining to play at the next level. That double whammy of added value has resulted in Bedford collecting a long list of BCS conference scholarship offers. Iowa State is one of the schools that has made the cut to get an official visit.
"I'm trying to get something set up for an official to Iowa State," Bedford said. "I went up there this weekend to watch the game with Oklahoma. I have a friend who plays cornerback there (Allen Bell) and it's our bye week, so a couple of us drove up from Independence. I'll be coming back, we just have to set the date."
