Lewis Likes Wake
Over the past few years, the safety position has become a place for some of Wake Forest's best athletes. Josh Gattis, who is now on the active roster for the Chicago Bears, was drafted in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL draft. His replacement, redshirt junior Chip Vaughn, has also become a playmaker for this Demon Deacon defense, as he ranks 51st in the country in total tackles. However, the Wake Forest coaching staff understands the need to keep reloading at such an important position, and that is why they are targeting St. Augustine (FL) safety Carlton Lewis.
Lewis' team is already past the halfway point in their season, and has done very well thus far. "It's going well, we're playing pretty good" he said. "We are 6-1 now. I am playing both sides of the ball, wide receiver and safety. On offense I've got 24 catches for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns."
Lewis says that he is busy getting ready for the homestretch, and hopefully being able to make a run deep into the playoffs just like he did last year. However, even with things heating up on the field, his recruitment off the field is just as hot.
"I'm getting a lot of interest from Clemson, USC, Wake, USF, Illinois, and Minnesota. All of those schools have offered, and they are all even right now. I just took an unofficial visit to Clemson, and I am planning on taking a trip up to Wake Forest, but it's probably not going to be until January."
