Despite playing a position that is grossly overlooked, Kansas State punter Tim Reyer has been recognized as one of the country's best at the position. The Rock Creek (Kan.) High School graduate is a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, given to the nation's top punter, and has been an intricate part of K-State's top-ranked special teams unit. GoPowercat.com sat down with the Wildcats' most ignored player on Monday for an interview about a variety of topics including his perception and his future.

Being a semifinalist for a national award has to be a thrill for you. How has that kind of recognition been?
I'm definitely really happy about it. This is the third year in a row that I've been on the watch list, but I'm happy about being a semifinalist this year.

Is this something you ever thought could ever happen for you?
Growing up, I always knew I was better than everyone around. In grade school and high school and stuff, I was the best. I guess I never thought I would be one of the best in the nation or anything. It's definitely exciting.

What inspires somebody to become a punter?
For me, it was just something I could do alone. If my dad didn't want to throw the football with me, I would just start kicking it. When I got tired of throwing the ball at a tree, I would kick again. Plus, I just noticed I could kick it further than anyone around.
