All about the YAC
The Oakland Raiders cut former University of Southern California standout wide receiver Mike Williams last week. Memories of Williams catching bubble-screens in the flat and shedding tacklers would make any Trojan fan nostalgic.
Recently, coverage of USC's offensive struggles has been saturated by broken fingers, dropped passes and rust, but, according to a number of Trojans, offensive success often hinges on wide-outs breaking tackles and getting the yards-after-catch (YAC).
"The YAC is real big," said wide receivers coach John Morton. "It's one of the difference makers and we try to find those difference makers."
Morton said that the staff charts the YAC every game, and it is one of the main stats he shows to his receiving corps in their meetings.
