Virginia Tech picked up a big commitment earlier this year from Matthews (N.C.) Butler in defensive back Eddie Whitley. Few knew at the time that would directly impact another Hokie pledge, one of his teammates, 6-foot-2, 191-pound wide receiver Jarrett Boykin. Hokiehaven.com finally caught up with the Carolina wideout to see what made him decide on the Hokies.
"I committed last night to Coach Sherman," Boykin said. "He was excited and congratulated me.
"In the past couple days; I talked the decision over with my parents, coaches and everybody that is a factor in my decision. They all thought it was the best if I go to Virginia Tech. They can travel to see me play and nobody really wanted me far from home.
"I went up there on Saturday and my family liked it and I liked it. That probably was it and I'm ready to spend the next four years of my life there."
It certainly helped the Hokies that Eddie Whitley, Boykin's high school teammate will be joining him at Virginia Tech.
