Heading into his visit last weekend to Virginia Tech, it was unclear if wide receiver Ben Barber would remain with the Hokies. That was especially the case after the 5-foot-10, 200-pounder worried many when he took a sudden unofficial visit earlier this month to Virginia.
"The visit to Virginia Tech went well," Alexandria (Va.) Edison head coach Vaughn Lewis said. "He told me that he worked out everything with the coaches and plans to even go back up for the game this weekend against Miami. He's going to go back to Virginia Tech on Saturday with his mom.
"For some reason, they were having problems getting him there in September and instead it was either this January or next January. He made the commitment that he wants to go there this January and assured me that's what he'll do. In a couple months he'll be attending school at Virginia Tech."
To Lewis, there was little doubt on Barber's decision.
"His half brother went there, Willie Pile and that was a big reason why he wanted to go there too. He never seemed to waver on that."
Since the No. 30 prospect in Virginia is coming in early, is there a chance for immediate playing time?
"I haven't brought that up to the coaches, but they are excited about having him come in early. There is a chance. I'm not completely sure where they'll put him. His main love is wide receiver, but he's a great defensive back too.
