UA on the verge of bowl qualification
The Arizona Wildcats were set on perhaps the biggest stage in college football on Thursday night with a lot to play for and a lot to prove. The Oregon Ducks came into town ranked #2 nationally after being beaten badly the year before by the Cats at home. The Ducks had a ton to play for last Thursday night, but so did the Wildcats.
The first drive of the game was very telling about the mindset of the Mike Bellotti-coached Ducks. There was simply no respect for the Wildcats at all and it seemed as though the Ducks were in Tucson to prove a point.
After a first drive that found the Ducks going for it on fourth down and then going for a two-point conversion instead of kicking an extra point, it became very clear to me that the Wildcats could quite possibly be in for a long night.
I was interested to see how the Wildcats would respond to the Ducks' first drive and while the result was obviously not great I was happy to see Willie Tuitama gunning the ball downfield early. I knew by the time that both teams had completed their first drives that this was going to be a major slugfest for four full quarters.
