Notebook: Fond memories of Sack Game
Most fans have their favorite Iron Bowl game or moment, and the memories can stretch back for many decades. But many Auburn players don't have to look too far back for their top moments.
Two years will suffice.
In 2005, the last time Alabama visited Auburn, the Tigers sacked Bama quarterback Brodie Croyle a school-record 11 times. AU jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, holding the Tide to minus-17 yards of offense, and won 28-18 after Bama added a meaningless touchdown with under a minute left in the game.
Defensive end Quentin Groves had 1.5 sacks in that game and has nine tackles and 3.5 sacks in his career against the Tide. Fellow d-end Stanley McClover led the Tigers attack with 3.5 sacks.
A total of seven AU defenders recorded at least 0.5 sacks.
"Eleven sacks," Groves said simply. "It was out there with your brothers and everybody was getting sacks. We were really and truly having fun."
