Johnson's career over
The career of running back Jason Johnson is over.
Johnson said Tuesday that what was first described as a "stinger" injury to his neck was actually a damaged vertebrae.
The senior said doctors told him that he'd risk paralysis if he continued to play.
"There's a lot of technical language that I really don't understand, but it's in my best interest not play contact sports any more," said Johnson, who admitted he has a narrowing of the spine. "I'd risk paralysis if something were to happen again."
A career backup, Johnson saw most of his action on special teams for the Bulldogs, although he did start in the game against Florida.
"I got a taste, but that doesn't make it better," Johnson said. "It makes me wonder what if. I'm just thankful that nothing else is wrong and I'm still able to function."
Johnson said the injury occurred during last Tuesday's practice prior to the Kentucky game.
