State title run a priority for Johnson

It was a great and lengthy in-home visit and one of the least talked about topics was football recruiting. Largo (Fla.) athlete Leonard Johnson hosted Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik as his house last week and the two spent hours getting to know each other better, with Johnson's parents also included in that mix. Was a verbal commitment made at the end of the night?

No, it wasn't. The 5-foot-10, 177-pound Johnson is still uncommitted and will apparently stay that way for a while. As a key player on Largo's undefeated football team that has a state semifinal game coming up, Johnson is both tempted to end the recruiting process now and to extend things until he can focus solely on making a college decision. The latter is winning out so far.

"I'm not committed," Johnson said. "I don't want to rude but I don't want to say much on it. It shows up on the internet and it's a big deal sometimes, no matter what you say. So I am just not going to say much about it right now. My visit from Coach Chizik went great, it was real good. We didn't even talk about football and recruiting that much. He wanted to get to know my parents better and me better. We really just scratched the surface when it came to football."
