The best prospects from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina came to play and put on a show in the 71st annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Rivals.com Recruiting Analyst Barton Simmons scouted the action and breaks down the best of the best at each position.

QUARTERBACK Reid McCollum, Summerville, S.C., South Carolina Commit McCollum looked sharp all week in practice distributing the ball to a talented receiving corps. Though he was outplayed by Mounce in the actual game, McCollum's size and performance in practice give him the edge. Big Riser: Richard Mounce, Blythewood, S.C.

RUNNING BACK Andre Ellington, Moncks Corner (S.C) Berkeley, Clemson Commit A true all-purpose back, Ellington showed nice ball skills out of the backfield and was easily the best back all week in practice. Big Riser: None

WIDE RECEIVER A.J. Green, Summerville, S.C., Georgia Commit Green was on cruise control much of the week in practice, but come game time, he was ready to play, catching four passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, earning MVP honors. Big Riser: Jordan Lyles, Hartsville, S.C.

TIGHT END Dwayne Allen, Fayeteville (N.C.) Terry Sanford, Georgia Commit Allen didn't have much competition considering South Carolina rarely used a tight end, but the Georgia commit did show a lot of promise as a blocker. Big Riser: None

OFFENSIVE LINE R.J. Mattes, Concord (N.C.) Robinson Mattes was the most complete offensive lineman in Spartanburg. He has really developed physically and he put together solid week of practice. Big Riser: Nick Becton, Wilmington (N.C.) New Hanover, Virginia Tech Commit

DEFENSIVE LINE DaQuan Bowers, Bamberg (S.C.) Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Clemson Commit Though he struggled at times in the game playing out of position at defensive tackle, he does things athletically that a man of his size should not be able to do. Big Riser: Allen Crowder, Mebane (N.C.) Eastern Alamance

LINEBACKER Sterling Lucas, Orangeburg (S.C.) Orangeburg-Wilkinson Lucas was a virtual unknown heading into the week but created a buzz from the first practice all the way up to the game. He has the physical tools, has a nose for the ball and was a defensive leader to boot. Big Riser: Lucas, Kevin Reddick, New Bern, S.C.

CORNERBACK Cartier Rice, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes, Kentucky Commit Rice took on the challenge all week of covering a very talented group of receivers and came up aces. He was one of several good defensive backs for South Carolina. Big Riser: Rice, Tony Mack, North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester

SAFETY Lorenzo Williams, Fayetteville (N.C.) Westover Senior, Virginia Tech Commit He played cornerback for North Carolina but he projects better as a safety. He looks great physically and is a fluid athlete. Despite some struggles in the game, Williams showed that he can be a safety with some cover abilities. Big Riser: Lee Butler, Anderson (S.C.)
