Will Florida LB visit MSU?
Michigan State is hoping to add at least one more linebacker to the class of 2008. The staff is scouring the country trying to find prospects that have the ability to excel in the Big Ten. SpartanMag.com spoke with a prospect last night that just received a scholarship from Michigan State, Yourhighness Morgan of South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida.
Morgan is a 6-foot-2, 227-pound linebacker that has been clocked as fast as 4.53 second in the forty-yard dash. He just finished up a senior year in which he was named 1st Team All-State in Division 2A. On eth season he totaled 91 tackles in only 7 games. Morgan missed the first few games of the season due to a high-ankle sprain.
Rivals.com rates Morgan a 3-star prospect and the #44 inside linebacker prospect in the nation for the class of 2008.
We asked Morgan about the recent interest from Michigan State
"Apparently Coach (Harlon) Barnett was recruiting the area and he asked some other coaches about linebackers and they told him about me. He came and saw me and asked for my film. I was going to commit after this past weekend, but he told me that they would have an answer for me about an offer on Sunday."
On Sunday Morgan was contacted by Michigan State and informed that he had an offer from the Spartans. No long afterwards the Purdue Boilermakers also informed him that he has a scholarship with them too. North Carolina State is in the evaluation stage and could be offering this week as well.
So where does this leave Morgan right now?
"I am not sure yet, things are happening fast. I am not sure where I will visit this weekend. I am supposed to speak with Coach Barnett tomorrow. You never know what is going to happen in recruiting."
Morgan only has one official visit left, so he wants to makes are that the school he visits is a realistic option for him. Morgan wants to go to a school that offers him a chance to see the field early as well as get a quality education.
One thing that is for sure is Morgan's affinity toward the Florida Atlantic football program.
"I really liked it there when I visited. I did not realize the history that Coach Schnellenberger has, the championships he has won. Florida Atlantic is a program on the rise and being a part of that is an attractive option."
With his recent scholarship from Michigan State and Purdue, Morgan is close to double-digit offers. Other schools that have extended him a scholarship include, Florida Atlantic, Central Florida, Tulsa, Buffalo, Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky
Morgan also talked about how academic sis an important aspect for him as well. He currently carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom and has already received a qualifying score on his ACT.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow-up with Morgan in the coming days. A few years ago the Spartans signed a Florida linebacker late in the process named Tyrone McKenzie. Coach Dantonio could use a player like him in this class. McKenzie flew under the radar for much of his senior year only to see his stock blow-up right before signing day.
