Houston school has senior, juniors
While Houston and Baylor entered the picture late, Houston Lamar's Eric Lair is sticking with his guns.
Lair verbally committed to the University of Minnesota prior to the season and will stick with the Gophers through signing day.
"I'm going to be attending Minnesota," he said. "The coaches have a plan for me right away and I like how they are going use me. Houston wasn't sure how they wanted to use me."
With Lair on board, the Gophers next target is Lair's teammate Tracy Robertson, a 6-foot-4 defensive end. Robertson took his official visit to Minnesota and enjoyed his visit. He also lists Houston, TCU and Baylor as other close favorites.
"I really think he's coming with me to Minnesota, but can't be sure," Lair said.
The Gopher coaches don't seem to be stopping at Roberston. Minnesota coaches have also extended an offer to junior running back Kalvin Guyton. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound back rushed for over 900 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He has been offered by the University of Houston.
They are also looking at receiver Josh Gordon. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver is a glider on the outside and has huge, soft hands. Houston has also offered the junior athlete.
Lamar's sleeper is senior linebacker Steve Erzinger, who cleaned up in the awards category for his play in 2007. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker was his district's defensive Most Valuable Player, a first-team, all-Greater Houston selection and a Houston TD Club defensive finalist.
"I'm one of the late guys," he said. "I officially visited Army last weekend and it seems like it has a lot to offer. I'm hearing from Air Force, TCU, Baylor and Boise State. I hope to be taking some visits over the next few weeks."
