Texas RB commits to Ole Miss

Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt got a pledge from one of Texas' top running backs when Devin Thomas made his commitment public Sunday evening.

According to Thomas of San Antonio, TX he gave Coach Nutt and his pledge last week but decided to wait and make it public Sunday.

"It was time," Thomas told RebelSports.Net Sunday night. "I was going to wait until signing day, but couldn't wait any longer. I'm so excited about being a Rebel I couldn't keep it to myself anymore."
Thomas was impressed by Coach Nutt and Coach Chris Vaughn's approach to his recruitment.

"They showed me how important I was to them," Thomas said. "After my official visit, they sent three coaches to San Antonio to see me. That told me a lot."
Thomas was impressed by his official visit, stating that it was a great trip.

"I love everything about Ole Miss,," Thomas said. "The academic center was very impressive. My grades are very important to me, my goal is to graduate in four years or less."

Thomas was selected for the US Army All-American all-star game, earlier this month in San Antonio, but was unable to play due to an injury but still participated in the week long events.

"It was fantastic, a great time," Thomas said Sunday evening. "It was a great honor to be selected, although I couldn't play, so I was just concentrating on having as much fun as I could."

Thomas' selection was certainly warranted.

In just six games before he was injured, he rushed for 1,477 yards on just 128 carries for a 11.1 rushing yard average per carry, and had 17 touchdowns. His junior season he rushed for 1,891 yards and scored 23 touchdowns.

"It gets better," Thomas said. "I only played two full games. The other four games, I didn't play in the second half."

Thomas committed to Arkansas but de committed from the Hogs earlier in the month and becomes the third former Razorback pledge to switch his commitment to the Rebels.

Thomas had already qualified academically, scoring a 1200 on the SAT and with a 3.6 G.P.A.
