Kevin Brent has a top four
The class of 2009 isn't deep at safety in the state of Texas, but the Lone Star State does hold two of the top safeties in the country in Kevin Brent and Craig Loston.
Loston's recruitment has been well documented, as he has been offered schools in every major conference and isn't shy about speaking to the media. However, Brent's recruitment has been a bit more of a mystery. So just what is Brent thinking about the process?
"Everything has been going real good," explained the four-star prospect. "I'm running track, like the 4x1, the 4x2, and the open 200. As far as recruiting and everything, I've just been listening to schools and all that. I'm still just getting in offers and stuff."
Brent went on to mention that he's enjoying the process of picking up scholarship offers.
"So far I've got offers from Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Missouri, Houston, LSU, Kentucky, Miami, and I think that's it," he said. "It's been good to get those offers."
One of those offers, Texas, came last weekend when Brent made the trek to Austin to check out UT's campus.
"It was fine," he asked when answered how his trip went. "I went down there on Saturday and came back the same day. I liked the campus and everything. Coach Brown offered me a scholarship, so I guess that felt good."
Though Brent knew what the Texas coaches wanted out of the weekend, he is sticking to his own personal timeline.
"I'm going to commit before the season, but I'm not doing anything right now," said the hard-hitting safety. "I know they wanted me to commit this weekend, but in the end they just said to call them and let them know if I was interested."
Make no mistake, in addition to the ten teams who have offered him a scholarship, there will almost certainly be more suitors as spring turns into summer, but for now, Brent says four schools stand out.
"I'd say right now my favorites are Oklahoma, Texas Tech, LSU, and Texas," said the 6-foot, 205-pound defensive back. "I just really like those four."
The star safety, who recorded 77 solo tackles, 3 interceptions, and 4 sacks last season, says he will visit Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and LSU this summer if everything goes according to plan and then make his decision.
