UAB surprises Williams with an offer
Chad Simmons
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Central Florida offered Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood offensive lineman Kellen Williams first and now Alabama-Birmingham comes I with offer number two. UCF was not too shocking, but the Blazers one was unexpected.
"The offer from UAB came out of nowhere," said Williams. "I had not had any prior contact with them before they offered me this week."
"My coach (Mark Crews) called me into his office during school and he let me listen to a voice mail that one of the coaches from UAB had left. It said that they would like to offer me a scholarship and he said a few other things."
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman has interest in the Blazers, but he does not know too much about them yet. He will likely visit them later this spring, but has a couple other visits to take first.
"I will be visiting Georgia Tech on Tuesday to sit in on one of their meetings and then I am heading up to Vanderbilt on Saturday March 22 for their Junior Day," he said.
Williams looks to be a lineman that could inside or outside on the next level, but he wants to play tackle, and he is working on his quickness and footwork to make him better.
"Our coaches timed up in the forty-yard dash on Thursday and I ran a 5.25, so I was happy about that. I am going to keep working hard and get ready for spring practice."
The 2009 OL does not have a leader right now and is open to all the schools recruiting him at this time.
