Powerful Florida LB likes West Virginia
DORAL, Fla. - Quanthony Fletcher out of Miami (Fla.) Dr. Krop is a lot of things. He is full of personality. He is big at 6-foot-1 and around 240 pounds. He's a hitter. And as he has shown in his recent 7-on-7 practices, he is great in coverage. Fletcher already has several impressive offers but there are more schools that he has his eye on.
Fletcher lists UCF, Florida State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida as the five schools that have offered him so far with the UCF offer as the most recent.
"UCF offered me like a week ago," Fletcher said on Sunday. "I talk to coach Kelly a lot. I like there coaching staff."
Despite Fletcher's relationship with the UCF staff, the Black Knights along with some other in-state powers may actually be hurt by their proximity. The outspoken linebacker hopes to experience something new in a college.
"I don't want to stay in Florida," Fletcher said. "But if I get a scholarship I'd still go there, I ain't gonna say no. I don't really want to stay in state though. I've been down here for a long time. I want to experience something new."
Early on, one out-of-state program has caught his attention.
"I like West Virginia right now," he said. "They send me a lot of letters and stuff like that. My coach, he's from West Virginia. I like the defense they run and the team. I think I'm gonna go on a visit up there soon."
Fletcher, who also lists Georgia Tech as a school of interest, is obviously a force against the run due to his size and strength but he is surprisingly adept in pass coverage as well.
"My strength is hitting hard," he said. "I'm a good coverage guy. Not real good at man but I'm a good coverage guy. I'm good at staying in my zones. I got good from playing in the backyard because everybody's corners and safeties and when you play safety you gotta see the quarterback and wherever the quarterback's eyes go that's where you go. I learned from playing in the streets."
Despite his size, Fletcher has great athleticism and has shown impressive awareness in pass coverage for his South Florida All-Star 7-on-7 team.
