Timing is an important part of playing the quarterback position, and quarterback Evan Watkins couldn't have picked a better time to commit to Northwestern, becoming the first member of the Wildcats' Class of 2009 when he verbally committed to coach Pat Fitzgerald this morning.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder from Carol Stream (Ill.) Glenbard North made his verbal commitment just hours before the Wildcats' first spring practice in pads on a glorious, sunny day in Evanston.
