The center position remains unsettled
One of the more interesting and surprising subplots to emerge from Texas Tech's recently concluded spring workouts is a change of fortunes at the center position. Going into the spring the conventional wisdom was that returning starter Shawn Byrnes had the position essentially locked up, and that he would receive nice backup support from Stephen Hamby, and perhaps Justin Keown.
Byrnes, after all, was a player many observers regarded as the best Tech center to come along in quite some time. Hamby, on the other hand, was a walk-on and there is an inherent mental bias against walk-ons.
At this juncture, however, the conventional wisdom is a shambles.
