Avery now waits for MLB Draft
Since signing with Georgia as a football prospect in February, everyone has talked about the odds of Xavier Avery making it to Athens. It is not because of academics because he has a near perfect GPA at Cedar Grove, but it is because of his talents on the baseball diamond.
"I think I did alright this season," said a modest Avery. "I hit over .600, I stole about 30 bases, and I think I had a good season in the field."
"I just went out there and played hard again this year. I think I did pretty good, but I always know I can do better."
Draft talk has been coming up often around this 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete, but he is not taking part of it.
"I still don't know anything about my status. I hear a lot of things, people tell me stuff, and I get asked about it a lot, but you never know until they pick you."
"I am supposed to sit down and talk with my advisor here soon about the draft, but I still won't know anything. I am just going to sit back and wait for it to come on June 5."
Until then, many pro scouts are bringing him in for private workouts.
"I have already worked out for a lot of teams," Avery explained. "I have worked out for the Chicago Cubs, the Kansas City Royals, the Philadelphia Phillies, and a lot more teams already."
