Offers two and three in for Destrehan defender
Destrehan High School in Destrehan, La. is a popular stop for college coaches during the Spring. Last season, the talent-rich program went undefeated and won a state championship while sending numerous players to play college ball at the next level. This season's crop expects no less and one of the more talented players among them is linebacker Rufus Porter.
Porter, a 6-foot 200-pound outside backer, recently picked up offers number two and three to add to his early list of suitors.
"Tulane and SMU offered," Porter said. "They both came around the same time, maybe like a week ago. The coach from Tulane he just called me but he said he gave the mail to my coach maybe like a week ago and SMU they came to the school maybe like Friday of last week."
Though Porter doesn't know much about either program, he is excited to learn more.
"I'm interested to find out but other than that I don't know much about them."
Practice this Spring at Destrehan has been part practice part college combine due to all of the attention from college coaches and Porter is still learning to adjust.
"It went good," he said of Spring Practice. "A lot of scouts are talking to me. It's getting confusing but I think I'm good. All the schools that offered me scholarships they sound like they really like me. They're really showing interest in me. They want me to come up there real bad. It's a decision but I think I'm going to make the right one."
Destrehan isn't taking long to get back in the swing of things. After finishing out the spring, the players get two weeks before revving things back up with Wednesday team workouts and 7 on 7 passing camps.
For Porter, he has made some plans of his own.
"On June 21 I'm going to go up there to Tulane for a camp and I'm going to SMU," he said. "I don't know when I'm going to go up there but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go up there this month."
