Dippel nets No. 3, preps for Badger camp
With one full scholarship offer already on the board, it was only a matter of time before one of Wisconsin's top prospects to start pilling up more.
Tyler Dippel, a 6-foot-4, 248-pound linebacker, already with an offer from Western Michigan, recently had another school come calling for his services.
Wednesday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with the Hartford (Wis) prospect to discuss his latest offer, as well as his plans to attend camp in Madison this weekend.
"They (Illinois State) called my house on a Saturday, I don't remember the exact date," said Dippel, who recorded 107 tackles as a junior. "We talked for a little bit, the coaches said they had a chance to sit down a review my film. They said they liked what they saw and that I was a football player who was also an athlete.
"At the end of our conversation they said they could use me on their team and they wanted to extend me a full scholarship offer."
With two offers currently on the table, Dippel feels it's time for the ball to start rolling.
"I'm starting to hear from Central Michigan a lot more and I've actually been trying to get a hold of them today, the head coach wanted to talk," he said. "Also, Minnesota, they called to talk and make sure I was going to be stopping by their camp. I've also been in touch with Wisconsin."
As for the Badgers, the coaching staff can expect Dippel in town this weekend to show off his skill set.
"My coach spoke with Coach (Bret) Bielema and he wanted me to come to this earlier camp instead of the second session that I was planning on going to," explained Dippel. "So I'm actually going to the Badger camp this weekend, which is Sunday through Tuesday.
"I'm looking forward to playing against some of the top guys and show them what I can do," he continued. "I'm hoping to show the staff that I do deserve a scholarship offer. I'm going to do my best to try and go there and get one and hopefully keep getting some more."
Wisconsin currently has five verbal commitments in the 2009 class: Zac Matthias, Ryan Groy, Shelby Harris, Jordan Kohout and Jon Budmayr.
