Boffeli turns focus to recruiting

After wrapping up baseball season this past week, multi-sport athlete Conor Boffeli will now turn his focus to recruiting a little bit more as he gets ready for football to start in early August. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Boffeli, who holds scholarship offers in football from Iowa and Iowa State, looks forward to getting back in contact with the coaches at both schools.

Boffeli, a pitcher and first baseman, is still receiving some college interest for baseball as well, most notably from UNI, but says his focus is mostly on football at this point. While he had a very good season on the diamond, the 2009 prospect felt it was not up to standards after a loss in sub-state last week.

Heading into football season, the high standards are very similar for Valley as they have been one of the most dominant programs in Class 4A for some time now. Boffeli, who plays tight end in high school but may project at offensive line in college, looks forward to improving on last year's state semifinal appearance.

Among Boffeli's teammates on the Valley football team is big offensive lineman David Barrent, who committed to the Hawkeyes back in May. Will the tight end join Barrent at Iowa next year? That should be decided sometime in the next month as he looks to choose between the two in-state schools.

Rivals.com ranks Boffeli at No. 7 in the current top 10 for the state of Iowa in 2009.
