LA FB puts Ole Miss at the top
Benton, La. fullback Casey Henderson made it up to Ole Miss senior "elite" camp last Saturday and came away impressed with the Rebels.
"I really like Ole Miss," Henderson said on Monday after returning home from the camp. "I'd say they are my top school and I hope they offer soon."
Despite his three-star rating, Henderson has picked up only an offer from Northwestern State, but is getting a lot of attention, including from Auburn and Oklahoma.
Henderson, a 5-foot-10, 225 pound prospect with 4.6 speed validated his speed when he turned in a 4.6 forty on the artificial turf at Ole Miss' Indoor Practice Facility.
Henderson is being recruited by Kim Dameron, who recruits portions of Louisiana for Ole Miss, and by Rebel running backs coach Derrick Nix.
"They told me that they like me a lot," Henderson said. "He had some good things to say about me. Coach Nix was like, you want to play fullback, do you mind playing fullback, and I just laughed and said that I was cool with that."
While Henderson was going through drills, his mother took time to look over Oxford and after camp, both looked over the campus.
"She loved the town," Henderson said. "And, I loved the college. I like the stadium and that everyone seemed so nice.
For now, Henderson must wait out an offer - either until after coaches have time to evaluate film from the camp or for the upcoming season.
"They (the coaches) say they would like to see some more tape," Henderson said. "But they did say that they like my speed and that I did a good job in handling the linebackers."
While Henderson isn't sure when an offer might be forthcoming, he feels that it could be soon after his camp appearance.
He had over 1,800 yards rushing last season with 22 touchdowns and also saw spot duty with his twin brother, Corey, on the defensive line.
Henderson was named first team all-state, offensive player of the year for the state, and most valuable player in his district. He also placed fourth in wrestling in the heavy weight division in state. His Benton team lost in the state semi-finals to Bastrop last season.
He recently camped at Oklahoma, where he made an impression.
"Henderson is built like a tank, and blocks like one would," wrote SoonerScoop.com's Josh McCuistion. "The big fullback was another player who was relatively unheard of prior to his arrival at camp but didn't take long in making a big impression as he won more than his fair share of battles. Henderson showed off solid hands in pass-catching and in short went from a mostly unheard of player into a potential Oklahoma target."
He also camped at Louisiana Tech, ULM, and at Northwestern.
Henderson calls "having pretty good hands" and being able to block and run as his strengths.
Henderson said that in addition to Ole Miss, the other two schools he's largely interested in are Auburn and Oklahoma.
Henderson has a GPA in the 2.9 range and took the ACT three weeks ago and is awaiting his test results.
