2010 Maryland LB has early offer
There's plenty of time between now and National Signing Day, which means most rising juniors haven't even gotten a taste of what the recruiting process will look like.
Parkville, Maryland linebacker Joshua Alaeze has already picked up an early verbal offer, however, and more should be on the way when September rolls around.
The 6-foot-1, 227-pound prospect is the brother of former five-star recruit Melvin Alaeze, who signed with Maryland as a member of the Class of 2006.
"I've got a scholarship from Towson to play linebacker," Alaeze explained. "I also play running back. My fastest 40-yard dash time is 4.64 seconds. I think I had about 400 yards on offense and maybe 70 tackles on defense last year."
Alaeze said he plays outside linebacker for Parkview and has solid coverage skills at this point in his development as a player.
He also isn't shy about talking about the schools that have piqued his interest.
"I've been getting mail from Pittsburgh, Boston College, Illinois, Maryland, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech," he explained.
"Right now my favorite is Illinois. I'm really cool with the person that recruits this area, Coach Locksley. He was the coach when my brother was being recruited and there's somewhat of a bond between us.
"I'd say my top three is Illinois, Boston College and Pitt."
Alaeze plans on taking unofficial visits to Penn State and Illinois this fall. He said Illinois has recruited him the hardest thus far, and believes an offer may be extended when September rolls around.
"I think they're going to offer in September," he explained. "They said they want to see film of my first couple of games, then they might offer."
