Notebook: McKenzie talks move to DE
Gabe McKenzie is still getting used to life as a defensive end. The Auburn senior moved from tight end to strongside defensive end last Tuesday, and the adjustment has been relatively smooth.
After just five days, McKenzie says he knows most of coordinator Paul Rhoads' defense, and he is quickly learning the techniques he needs for his new position.
"I'm real, real close to knowing the defense," he said. "I'm going to be a good player."
McKenzie was a star defensive end in high school at Mobile (Ala.) Davidson. Auburn defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks[db], who was the starting strongside end last season, says that is helping McKenzie make the adjustment, but it's not always that simple.
