Iowa State was third offer for Maponga
Josh Helmholdt
CycloneReport.com Iowa State was one of the first schools to offer Lewisville (Texas) Hebron defensive end Stansly Maponga, but the Cyclones have since been joined by several more teams with more schools that will be analyzing the 6-2, 240-pound defender's play this season. With that season on the horizon, Maponga detailed the Cyclones' chances.
"(Iowa State) was the third team to offer me," Maponga said. "The coaching staff, I just love them over there because they show interest everyday and they keep sending me letters and emails letting me know how their program is going and the season coming up."
Besides Iowa State, Maponga has scholarship offers from UTEP, Boise State, Utah State, Louisiana Tech and Buffalo. He is also hearing from the likes of Arkansas, Louisville, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Kansas. Iowa State's continued interest, however, has earned them a place in Maponga's top group.
"Iowa State, they are in my top five right now," Maponga said. "If more colleges come through I'd have to see, but Iowa State has a good chance."
Maponga will be watching the Cyclones this season to see how they fare in the Big 12 North, but he will also be paying attention to how he could fit into their defense in 2009 and beyond.
