ISU sets the bar for Derrick Rainey
As the first of three official visits on consecutive weekends, Iowa State was the bar-setter for Houston (Tex.) Northbrook athlete Derrick Rainey. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Rainey took his official visit to ISU this past weekend and went home of the opinion that ISU, Ames and the state of Iowa in general had exceeded his expectations.
"It's a really nice school," Rainey said about Iowa State. "I didn't know anything about Iowa, it blew me away, it's a really nice place. I didn't expect so much. Everybody knew our names at the game and we got to do a lot of things with the team. Coming in on the team bus and walking through the crowd of people to get to the stadium, that was just a crazy great experience."
Rainey said that Iowa State is recruiting him strictly as a wide receiver while his other two favorites, TCU and Arizona, continue to see him as an athlete who could play receiver or safety. And he'll see what those schools have to offer very soon.
"I am going to TCU next week (Sept. 12) and Arizona after that (Sept. 19)," said Rainey. "Those are the schools that have offered me so I going to visit them first."
Rainey's older brother Jonathan is a linebacker at New Mexico.
