Ole Miss still evaluating Alabama center
Ole Miss' center situation looks like this - two juniors running one-two on the depth chart and sixth year senior Darryl Harris assigned disaster duties.
While there's the possibility of converting a current lineman to center next spring, the Rebels will likely sign at least one true center prospect to fill a critical position on the line for the future.
Hoover (Spain Park HS), Ala. center Jesse Grisham is one prospect the Rebels are looking at to fill that need, but have not yet offer.
Grisham, 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, camped at Ole Miss last summer and was told by the staff that they would like to do further evaluation into his senior season. That evaluation continues.
Meanwhile, Rebel offensive line coach Mike Markuson is tracking Grisham's progress.
"I've talked to coach Markuson once this month," Grisham said on Tuesday. "He's mainly just calling to check in, see how things are going, and keeping in contact. I think he's talking some with my coach, I think that's were a lot of the contact is happening."
Grisham currently has pulled in offers from UAB, Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama, and one other school is picking up interest.
"I'd say out of all the schools that Middle Tennessee is probably showing the most interest right now," Grisham said. "They seem really interested and I think they are close to offering."
Regardless of who offers, Grisham currently doesn't plan to make a decision about where he'll play college football until December.
"I plan on taking several unofficial visits over the next couple of months," he said. "I'm going to UAB in a couple of weeks and then to Middle Tennessee sometime in November. I'd also like to get to ULM, but might just go to the Ole Miss and ULM game in November and kill two birds with one stone by getting to see both of them play. I definitely want to take an unofficial to Ole Miss and also to South Alabama.
Grisham says he understands why Ole Miss hasn't offered between coaches being in the middle of the season and concentrating on the team nd him being a prospect who's not necessarily at the top of their list. He said he isn't bothered by that and will patiently wait to see if an opportunity develops with Ole Miss. However, that will be on his timeline to make a decision and commit in December. He hopes to help his chances with Ole Miss by sending in some senior video soon.
Grisham previously lived in Iuka, Miss. and is familiar with the campus and has attended several Ole Miss games.
"We really love Ole Miss," Grisham said. "We really like the atmosphere - it's a great school."
He has a 2.8 GPA and made an 18 on his first ACT attempt and plans to re-take the test in October.
