Spartans continue to add Ohio talent
Last week SpartanMag.com broke the news the not only did Denicos Allen have a scholarship to Michigan State, but he would also be in East Lansing for the game against Iowa. Allen definitely liked what he saw and earlier today he made it official by committing to Head Coach Mark Dantonio and the Spartans.
The 6-foot-0, 210-pound Allen is known for being a physical defender with excellent speed. Rivals.com rates Allen as a 3-star recruit and the #34 outside linebacker in the nation for the class of 2008. He is also rated the #33 player in Ohio. Allen's commitment gives the Spartans 4 of the top 33 players in Ohio. Only the in-state Buckeyes can lay claim to recruiting Ohio better than the Spartans.
Allen was able to spend a lot of quality time around the Spartan Coaching staff and players this weekend. He also was able to meet several of the other class of 2009 commitments. When SprtanMag.com asked Allen about Michigan State he had the following to say.
"It was great. I loved it up there."
That feeling helped make Allen's decision to pull the trigger an easy one. When we asked him if he would indeed be playing for Michigan State, the response we got was an emphatic "Yes!"
Allen ended up selecting the Spartans over a host of other program including fellow Big Ten schools Wisconsin and Illinois. Both of who offered him a scholarship.
Allen is having a very strong senior campaign for Hamilton High. He leads the Big Blue with 58.5 tackles and has a conference leading 5.5 sacks. His play is one of the main rasponss why Hamilton is giving up less than 175-yards per contest.
Though Allen is listed as an outside linebacker by Rivals.com, he will likely start out as a strong safety for the Spartans. Allen will arrive as one of the most ready to play players in the class and he is already physically mature. Allen can bench press over 350-pound and squat over 400-pounds.
Allen informed SpartanMag.com that the relationships he has developed with the Spartan staff are very strong. Allen's primary recruiter is Spartan Defensive Back Coach Harlon Barnett.
"I have a great relationship with them, he said. Coach Barnett came and watched me play last week (9/26)."
Allen becomes the 16th verbal commitment to the Spartan recruiting class. Like the majority of the recruits targeted by Coach Dantonio and his staff, Allen carries a solid GPA, 3.2.
Allen is coached at Hamilton High School by Jim Place. Place was the coach at Dayton Julienne-Chaminade when Javon Ringer and Brandon McKinney were being recruited by Michigan State. Some may have seen the photo of Javon Ringer in high school doing a high kick over Coach Place.
Coach Place is known for running a hard-nosed disciplined program. That fact is likely another reason why the Spartan were so high on Allen.
SpartanMag.com will have more on Allen in the near future
