Banks leads undefeated Wolverines
Jonathan Banks has the East Webster Wolverines in prime position for a state title run in MHSAA Class 1A.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder plays quarterback, free safety and punt returner for the undefeated Wolverines.
East Webster is ranked No.1 in their classification and are 10-0 with one game left in the regular season.
"For the rest of the season, we've got a big X on our back," Banks said. "We've just got to come out every day and work hard. We've got West Lowndes coming up next week. They are going to be tough."
The Wolverines are coming off a 62-0 shutout of East Oktibbeha this past Friday for homecoming. Banks accounted for 139 all-purpose yards, two touchdowns and one defensive interception in first half action. Banks led the Wolverines with 84 yards on seven carries and a touchdown while passing for 25 more yards and another score.
For the season Banks has carried 69 times for 417 yards rushing and seven rushing TDs, 35-of-59 passing for 498 yards with seven TD passes and no picks and two punt returns for touchdown.
As for Banks college future, it is settled.
"It's a done deal, I'm a Bulldog," Banks said. "I don't think there is nothing out there that could make me change my mind. That's my home. That's where I want to be."
Banks committed to Mississippi State on April 27 and said he hears from them once a week.
