Star Texas CB has a big Monday
Monday was a big day for Lancaster (Texas) High School standout Demontre Hurst. The athletic defensive back is through with his senior season but he is more busy than ever. On Monday alone, Hurst received visits from four different programs. He also spoke on the phone to the coaches from three different schools. He also picked up two big offers to add to an already extensive list.
"Today was crazy," Hurst said on Monday evening. "About four schools came to school today: Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Baylor. They all came to talk to me and I just got my official offer from Miami so I'm pretty excited about that. Michigan said an offer is all set for me too."
The day would have been exciting without the new offers. After all, Hurst has already received enough scholarship offers to keep him busy but Michigan and Miami in particular hold a special interest for him.
"I know that they're two good schools with tradition," he said. "I know they put many many players into the league. I know both schools have a good alumni base. I know they're known for their school and academics. I know they have good football tradition and the defenses at both schools are pretty good. So that's all what I look at. And everybody knows about the schools so there are a lot of eyes on Miami and Michigan when they get on TV. I was real happy."
Though the offers are new, the interest is not. Hurst has been in steady communication with both programs for some time. In fact Coach Hopson from Michigan joins Coach Blake from North Carolina as the two coaches that Hurst claims to talk to the most. The two new arrivals even made Hurst's current top six.
"I'm narrowing it down now," he said. "I believe I have a good group that I'm really focused on and hopefully I can take the visits I want. The schools are Miami, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina and probably Wet Virginia."
Currently Hurst knows of two visits for sure that he anticipates making: a Miami visit on Jan. 23 and a North Carolina visit, likely in January also.
"I don't believe I will take all five visits," he said. "I probably will have like one left over. I don't think I'll take all five."
Hurst has already visited Arizona officially and before he makes any more trips, he is taking a short break.
"I just got off Thanksgiving break," he said. "I'm kind of relaxing right now and then I'm going to see if I get an opportunity to see if I can play in one of these all-star games hopefully because I believe I played pretty good my senior year."
Hurst certainly did have a senior year to be proud of. The versatile defender had around 80 tackles, two touchdowns on kick returns (one for 108 yards), five interceptions with returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble, three recovered fumbles and a blocked extra point that he returned for a two-point conversion.
