TCU commits win some, lose some

PurpleMenace.com Another week of exciting Texas high school football took place last weekend in the fourth round of the playoffs. Seven TCU commits took to the battle field, and five of them ended their high school careers along the way.
TCU 2009 commits
LB - Tanner Brock - Copperas Cove
Arguably the state's top inside linebacker, Brock helped Cove to a dominating 45-7 victory over Klein Oak. In the win Brock recovered a fumble as the Dawg defense held Klein Oak (10-2) to 305 total yards. With the win the Dawgs move one game closer to the Class 5A Division II championship game.

WR - Josh Boyce - Copperas Cove
One of the most explosive players in the state, Boyce was held in check for the most part in the 45-7 win against Klein Oak recording 1 catch for 16 yards. However, Boyce gets to play another week and is just one game away from playing for a state championship.

OL - Ty Horn - Waco Midway
Midway totaled 403 yards including 284 rushing yards from tailback John Hubert in a controversial 43-42 loss to Longview. Horn dominated the Lobo defensive line from start to finish and ended his season without allowing a sack while recording over 60 pancakes and knockdowns each.
LB/S - Trenton Thomas - Brenham
The Cubs ended their impressive playoff run as they lost to Dayton 42-21. Brenham lost three turnovers in the contest.
"Maud Squad" - James Dunbar, Ray Burns, Bryant House - Maud
The state's #1 class A team finally met their match as they lost to 12-2 Cayuga who was led by one of the state's best junior tailbacks, Traylon Shead.
2009 Targets
Ath - Jerod Monk - Wylie
Monk, who is being recruited as a tight end by the Frogs, is currently playing quarterback for the Pirates and he has been impressive. In the 31-21 victory over Cedar Hill, Monk completed 9-of-17 passes for 143 yards and 2 scores. He will have to continue that impressive play as he faces off against Copperas Cove.

DE - Tevin Mims - Stony Point
Mims and his Stony Point defensive teammates shut down Skyline holding them to 183 total yards in the 28-14 win. Skyline had been averaging 42 points per game in the playoffs. Mims pressured Skyline quarterbacks all day and knocked down a Skyline pass in the final minutes of the game.

DL - Spencer Nealy - San Antonio Reagan
Nealy and his Rattler teammates suffered a heartbreaker against Smithson Valley losing 19-14.
ATH - Hunter Nix - Prosper
Nix did it all in the thrilling 39-38 double-overtime win over Abilene Wylie. Nix threw for 163 yards and added 73 more on the ground. More importantly he scored from 6-yards out in the second overtime and capped it off with a spectacular two-point conversion for the victory. With the win, the Eagles advance to the Class 3A Division I Championship game against two fellow TCU targets in La Vega prospects Chad Ward and Daxton Swanson.
