Red-River Region Star Enjoying Attention
Anytime a player goes from just 'one of the guys' on his high school team to a well known recruiting star the nicknames are sure to follow him. In the case of Denison, Texas running back D.J. Jones not only did nicknames become part of his daily life but even posters of him have become common place in the Red River border town.
"It's like 20 names they call me. It's me, the quarterback, and the tackle, and a few other defensive players, and they call us 'D-1 group'," Jones said. "They made a poster of me talking about 'Mr. Invincible'.
"The people in the journalism and photography group, they took my picture and put it on the thing from Friday Night Lights when he is running in the street."
Jones has enjoyed the attention from home but he has waited a long time to find out whether coaches from around the country would take notice of his talent. He admits that for some time he was unsure whether that day would come.
