Florida wide receiver looking forward to visit
Florida wide receiver Eric Williams is expected in West Lafayette this weekend, taking the first of what could be at least a couple official visits.
The 5-foot-10, 192-pounder from Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee, where soon-to-be Purdue head coach began his career as an assistant in the early 1980s, was expected to visit Ole Miss last weekend, but had to reschedule. That makes Purdue his first official.
"I'm going to look at the atmosphere," he said, "and I want to talk to their offensive coordinator, the head coach and all the coaches and see how I would fit into their offense.
"I've always watched them closely. They've been a passing school, with an offensive scheme that really fits me, so I'm really looking forward to getting up there on my visit."
Williams, a three-star prospect who's said to run a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, holds 13 scholarship offers, including from Purdue, Ole Miss, Marshall, Nebraska, South Carolina and South Florida. But it appears to be a two-school race, with Purdue and Ole Miss at the top of the list. Williams, though, says he might take a couple more visits, in addition to those two.
"I probably will take one or two more visits," he said, mentioning Marshall as a likely location, "just to see all my options and see where I feel like I'm at home at."
As for Purdue, Williams is expecting new offensive coordinator Gary Nord, along with wide receivers coach Brian Rock, in his home for a visit. The three will certainly find plenty to chat about, but he feels as though many of his questions about the Boilermakers have already been answered.
"I've already talked to Coach Hope, their new coach," he said, "and I asked him all kind of questions and he answered them. So we talked for a while and I got most of my questions answered then."
