Indiana cornerback visits Iowa City

Indiana cornerback Troy Smith made his first official visit this weekend with a trip to the University of Iowa. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Smith, who attends Pike High School in Indianapolis, said he enjoyed his time in Iowa City.

Smith's host on the official visit was freshman running back Jewel Hampton, who is also from the Indianapolis area. During his stay, the cornerback had a chance to sit down and meet with Iowa defensive backs coach, Phil Parker, who went over the defense with him.

The Iowa coaching staff just started showing interest in Smith in recent weeks and he came into the visit without a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes, so the big question was would he leave Iowa City with one in hand. While he did not, the coaches should be getting back to him soon.

Prior to leaving for Iowa City, Smith did pick up his first Division I scholarship offer however, as Ball State threw their hat into the ring.

After racking up 43 tackles and 8 interceptions this season, Smith has seen his stock steadily rise on the recruiting scene. Along with Iowa and Ball State, he is also hearing from Cincinnati, Toledo, and Louisville, among others.
