Colorado tailback likes CSU
Tom Lacock
GoldandGreenNews.com Pomona High School running back Donovan Bowens is beginning to set up college visits as his recruitment picks up steam. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Arvada (Col.) back has scholarship offers from the University of South Dakota as well as the University of Northern Colorado, but is getting phone calls and attention from bigger name schools like Wyoming, Nebraska, UCLA and Colorado State.
This season Bowens ran for 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns for a Pomona squad that went 10-2.
"The season went as well as we thought it would," Bowens said. "I enjoyed it. It was probably my best year. I played my best at the right time. We finished up 10-2 and lost in the final eight, which Pomona had not been in a long time."
Bowens has a 2.7 grade point average to go along with a 4.58 time in the 40-yard-dash, a bench press of 235 and a squat of 420. He said he will be taking an official visit to USD on Jan. 16 and is working on setting up other visits for the month of January as well.
"I am looking for a place with great academics, education, a great football program, a great student body and a place where I can live for four years," he said.
The Oklahoma native is also considering a visit to Wyoming, which he thinks may close to offering a scholarship. Colorado State has been in contact with him as well, recruiting him as a tailback or a safety.
"I love CSU," Bowens said. "I would love to play up there. They said they were going to talk to me more about a visit. I don't know when I am going to take it. I am going to keep in touch and I am definately interested in playing up there."
